Nestled in the heart of Provo, Utah, Rugged Grounds is far from your average coffee shop. Located at 397 E 200 N, this unique spot masterfully blends an eclectic range of vintage, rustic, and industrial design elements to create an atmosphere that is both spacious and intimately cozy. Stepping inside, you're greeted by an artistic, dimly lit space brimming with character — featuring raised counter seating by large windows, a pool table, a hidden room upstairs, and even a mini thrift section where you pay what you think items are worth. It’s a true community hub where every corner offers a new vibe and a fresh experience.
More than just aesthetics, Rugged Grounds prides itself on an exceptional coffee experience. Their daily roasts, varying from light to dark, showcase locally roasted, Fairtrade beans that deliver a fresh and deeply nuanced profile with each cup. Coffee enthusiasts will appreciate the carefully steeped 24-hour cold brew, which offers a rich and complex flavor, while the pourover provides a fuller, more refined taste that reveals the beans' delicate nuances. The shop’s espresso is a standout—particularly the light roast peaberry espresso that surprises with its bright acidity and fruit-forward notes, defying expectations of traditional darker roasts.
The menu extends beyond coffee, featuring delightful food options that elevate the experience. Their avocado toast, served on sourdough with organic butter, sesame seeds, and seasoning, is a creamy, fresh balance of flavors and textures—a perfect companion to their handcrafted drinks. Pair it with a matcha latte or the floral, soothing lavender latte to sip on something uniquely indulgent. For lighter bites, the grapefruit half or sweet toast rounds out options for those seeking a simple yet satisfying treat.
The all-organic tea selections and their proudly served local kombucha from Mamachari of Salt Lake City add even more depth to the beverage menu, catering to a variety of palates and preferences. Customers rave not only about the quality of drinks but also the friendly, knowledgeable baristas who add to the welcoming vibe.
Visitors repeatedly praise Rugged Grounds for its inviting, flexible seating arrangements—whether you want a quiet corner to work or a lively spot to catch live music, you’ll find a place that fits. The ambience is one of relaxed sophistication, where the mix of industrial and vintage décor makes every visit visually engaging and endlessly comfortable.
In essence, Rugged Grounds offers more than just coffee; it’s a vibrant, creative gathering place that champions quality and community. Whether you’re local or just passing through Provo, stopping here promises an experience that delights your senses and stirs a genuine appreciation for a well-crafted cup of coffee in an extraordinary environment.

Killer atmosphere, super roomy with plenty of space to sit, while still feeling cozy! I love the raised counter seating all along the window. The coffee is tasty too, and they even sell their own beans!
Loved that there was a lot of different types of seating, it was decorated very well. There is a pool table and live music on certain days/times. There was also a mini thrift section that was pay as much as you think it’s worth. Baristas were friendly and chai and matcha were good. Definitely would recommend this coffee shop if you’re visiting the area
Rugged Grounds just reopened in a new location and there’s nothing quite like it. The eclectic interior decorating is gorgeous. It’s an artistic mixing pot that blends vintage, alternative, rustic, industrial vibes. This is fabulous because so many people can come here and resonate with the different parts of the aesthetic. It’s dimly lit which gives it a calm and cozy atmosphere and so spacious! Sooo much seating and it’s set up in a way that invites people to socialize and engage with the space. Also a beautiful pool table! Love the idea to bring pool to a coffee shop. My first day here there were two musicians performing live at the front. Lil shout outs to Elisa, Angel, Enis, and Skylar. They provided such good service and I left the shop feeling like I made new friends! I was so impressed with Enis who made an effort to talk to all his customers. He was spending timing in the space with people. It’s clear that he really values everyone that walks through the door and wants them to have a great experience. The lovely employees and interior design creates an environment that makes you want to be a part of it. I’m so impressed with this spot and I’m excited to watch it bring people from the community together. Last important comment, VERY IMPORTANT COMMENT, I have been scouring Provo for good coffee and I’m please to announce I have FINALLY FOUND IT!!! I’ve only been a few times, but I’ve tried the Colombian light roast and the Brazilian medium roast and they were both so good. Great, great flavor and good prices. I was slid a plate of vegan chocolate cake to sample and my mouth waters just thinking about it…fingers are crossed that this ends up on the menu. OH also, they are going to be roasting their own bean in house which is SO COOL. Anyway, CHOOSE THIS COFFEE SHOP!!!!!
What a pleasant surprise to find the best coffee we've tried outside of the bay (in the US)! GET THEIR ESPRESSO. They do a light roast espresso which may be blasphemy to some but man is it good. We had a peaberry that really shined when not overwhelmed by a dark roast. Even the drip was pretty good. Think it was a Columbian. Good acid and fruit if you're into it. Vibes were chill. Outlets plentiful for those who want to work. Pool table is nostalgic for me. And of course the service was great. The woman who helped us has been there since they opened this new location (prior by the train station) and was honest about the pastries being store bought. Also check out John stamos at the POS terminal
It's a fun, not so little inside, coffee shop. The brew for espresso is a common tasting style (darker roast), and has a good flavor. The service is good and quick. The building is a bit of a fun experience, with a big open space upstairs and a hidden room. The place seems to not keep as busy as it probably should since it's off the beaten path. If you're in the area and looking for a good latte, this is a worthwhile place to stop.
Having been to dozens and dozens of coffee shops, this is one of the best cold brews I’ve ever had. Simply fantastic, and slightly on the stronger side. Bean quality seems to be outstanding. Only had the top of the line cold brew and a double shot of espresso which was also very good. Great vibes here too, very rustic & relaxing to just chill, have convo, or work. 10/10 would recommend, and is a strong contender for my personal best coffee shop of 2024.
Having lived in Portland OR for 10 years you get use to the idea that coffee shops everywhere are well crafted and top notch drinks. Sadly since moving to Utah I learned that’s absolutely not true. Rugged grounds can contend with the best of PDX coffee shop and makes me feel like I’m back in Oregon. I highly recommend a golden milk with a shot of espresso.
